    History of Unisel

Selangor State is the heartland of Malaysia. It is the most developed
state in Malaysia. Most of the Federal Governments mega-projected are
located in this state. For example, The Multimedia Super Corridor, the
new administrative centre Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur International Airport
(KLIA), of the most modern airports in the world, and Port Klang, the
biggest port in Malaysia. The state too has the most number of
institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. Its infrastructure and
communication facilities are among the best in the region. Above all,
the Selangor State Government is the first to establish its very own
    university-University Industry Selangor (UNISEL).

Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL) was established on 23 August 1999 with the
aim of providing world-class tertiary education and opportunities for
research and development (R&D) within the broad sphere of
industrial technology, management as well as information and
communications technology (ICT). UNISEL provides an educational system
which has extensive synergistic links with the industry and community
in developing new innovative activities and research and development
    work.

As the first state university, UNISEL operates as an
independent entity UNISEL derives its name from its focus on
industry-driven programmes and the fact that Selangor is well known as
an adopts ‘The Learning University’ as a corporate strategy to thrive
in the age of competition in educational industry. The ‘industry’
connotation enhances outcomes-based approach to teaching and learning.
This generates the synergy of knowledge and manpower development in the
university-industry driven curriculum and co-curriculum fields of
studies. The exertion leads to the expectation of learning outcomes to
    improve students employability.

The main campus UNISEL is currently being built on a 1,000 acre site at Berjuntai Bestari in Kuala Selangor. It is strategically located in the vicinity of serene
residential areas, booming industrial sites and surrounded by lakes and
greeneries. The campus is easily accessible, approximately 50km from
the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and 18km from Kuala Selangor town. The
university is part of a 4,000 acres piece of land which has been
earmarked as the “Selangor Educational Park”. The campus is expected to
be completed by the mid 2005. When fully completed, it will be able to
    accommodate 20,000 students.
    UNISEL’s present centre of operations
is at its Satellite Campus in Section 7, Shah Alam. Being the first
private funded university, the Selangor government has set aside more
than RM500 million for UNISEL’s physical development. The 6-storey
academic building will be able to house about 3,800 students at any one
    time.

The university also offers to foreign students from
Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Africa, and Middle
East countries, China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal and Cambodia.

UNISEL also caters complete facilities and services. The facilities and
services that available are accommodation, student centre, student
community centre, academic counseling, training and career placement
services for graduates, library and learning resources, clubs and
    societies and Student representative council.
